macbeth/twelfth night
festival stage design
A double bill of two contrasting Shakespeare plays: with the dark Tragedy of Macbeth reimagined in the 1950's, and Twelfth Night taking us into a joyful, retro-futurist world, full of comedy and romance. The pastel-coloured facade topped with a white picket fence set the scene. Moving venetian blinds and a central kitchen island created a dynamic playing space beneath the watchful presence of a full moon.
The design needed to be flexible enough for this double bill, as well as being adaptable for Othello & The Tempest the following week.
