speculative pop-up performance space

temple church, bristol

This intimate performance space was designed with devised theatre in mind. Within city-centre church ruins, the venue brings a forgotten space to life each summer through a temporary, amphitheatre inspired pavilion.

Audiovisual performers work alongside actors to create performances for an audience of 45, from day into night. Props are stored beneath the curved stone benches, whilst the existing doorway is animated through shadow puppetry and projection. Colourful rope weaves throughout the site and beyond, drawing passers-by into the space - inviting them to share in the magic.
